Product Description

Jewish tradition states that before God delivered the Torah to the Israelites through Moses’ hand, a celestial Torah was written in Black Fire on White Fire. Preceding Creation itself, this master scroll was God’s blueprint for the universe. The fabric of existence was woven from its very letters.

The transference of such divine power to man comes at a dangerous price when an embittered Moses has a confrontation with the angry grandson of Korah, the most formidable of the vanquished rebel leaders to challenge his authority. Reluctantly on his way to meet the Angel of Death on the slopes of Mount Nebo, Moses is carrying a mysterious scroll and a glowing object vaguely concealed under a plain cloth. Upon reaching a rough understanding with the young man, Moses presents him with a mystical relic originating from Creation – Black Fire.

If the White Fire parchment of the Torah master scroll can be marked by Black Fire, time and space may be rewritten by man’s hand.

Over three thousand years later, the descendants of Moses’ biblical enemies and a billionaire antiquities dealer discover the current location of the relic, setting off a brutal competition to possess Black Fire and possibly reshape mankind’s future. With eternal peace or apocalyptic destruction hanging in the balance, no mercy exists for those who would stand in the place of God.

Jonathan Levitan knows how to weave an adventurous story, and when murder, ancient feuds, and modern ambition come together, he gets it right, as in a can’t-put-down thriller. As far as I am concerned, the DaVinci Code can set aside for Black Fire sets the new standard. The Old Testament has so much to tell and so many mysteries to unfold, but only a few books can get us engrossed like this one.

Lee Crane, author and commentator

Let me give away just a bit of the plot in Black Fire.     Two modern families trace their feud back to the time of Moses. Their murderous search for an ancient relic used to write the Bible brings the conflict into focus once again, across continents and into the lives of innocents. Whoever captures the prize gains unimaginable power. The “fiery law” presented to Moses consisted of black fire written on white fire brings the ability to change history. I can think of plenty of people willing to kill for such ancient knowledge.   ----  Steve Pearl, historian

In addition to Black Fire, Jonathan Levitan is the author of The Red Apple and a corporate healthcare attorney. He lives outside Philadelphia with his wife, Stacy, their children, Jacob and Maya, and dog, Flash. When not engrossed in reading or writing, he can be found plying the back roads of the suburban landscape on his bike, searching for the next big hill to climb.
